      WBA News & Success Stories

I joined WBA Academy Development Center as an U9 and at first struggled with the step up from grassroots football. However, with the encouragement of the coaches and their guidance and support I ended up with a spell up at the WBA Academy before being signed at Birmingham FC as an U14, eventually making my international debut for Wales at U16 level. Due to the technical and tactical work, which underpinned the training at WBA ADC, the jump upto Academy football was much easier to cope with. I have a great deal to thank the WBA ADC  team for

Theo got spotted  by West Brom when he was paying for Bishop's Cleeve Colts in March 2016 at the age of 7.

That was at the start of his West Brom journey which initially saw him training twice a week at the club's training development centre at St Peters School in Gloucester.

The centre , run by Paul Gardiner is well organised and it most definitely works.

Within seven months, Russ and Andie and  the other excellent coaches that Paul Gardiner has assembled had worked their magic on Theo and he was ready for the full academy which is based in the shadow of The Hawthorns in Birmingham. Since then he has played - and scored - against academy teams from the likes of Man Utd, Liverpool, Leicester, Stoke and Nottingham Forest to name just a few. And it's not just Theo who has benefited from the outstanding work being done at the Development Centre - which this year celebrates it,s 10th anniversary - because over the past decade it has produced players for every West Brom Academy age group from under 9's through to under 18's, under 21's and the first team.

When I joined West Brom Development Centre I was quite a good player but the drills and skills that I recieved in Gloucester progressed me to being a much better player.

I enjoyed the development centre because the coaches were excellent in making the training fun. I am grateful for the opportunity given to me by Paul Gardiner and his team because it is down to them that I am now at West Brom Academy. I hope you guys continue to push through many more players to the Academy because it is a great place to play football.
